All 23 BioWare Games, Ranked
Gather your party one last time
Every great BioWare story starts the same way: You gather a party. For thirty years, the studio gave us companions we’d follow anywhere, choices that kept us up at night, and worlds we didn’t want to leave, from Candlekeep to the Citadel to Thedas. On Oct. 21, EA announced it’s closing BioWare, so we’ve ranked all 23 of its games — including remasters and mobile and browser spin-offs (but not expansions) — from worst to best. Grab your party. We’ll start with the footnotes and work our way up to the legends.
23 Dragon Age Journeys (2009)
Not every Dragon Age adventure came on a disc or via Steam download. Journeys, a free Flash tactical RPG from EA2D and BioWare, let you lead a party of warriors, rogues, and mages through turn-based, hex-grid battles, from a darkspawn ambush to Orzammar and back into the Deep Roads to find a Grey Warden. While Chapters 2 and 3 of this game never arrived, preservation projects have resurfaced Chapter 1 so you can still play it on a PC through the Flashpoint archive. An apt fate for a Deep Roads game, if you ask me.
22 Mass Effect Galaxy (2009)
Spoilers: Jacob Taylor’s vacation has not gone as planned. In Mass Effect Galaxy, the former Alliance marine’s cruise ends in a batarian terrorist attack. The aftermath sends him and Miranda Lawson after a plot against the Citadel Council, shortly before he joined Cerberus. Finishing the iPhone game got you a reward in Mass Effect 2. Unfortunately, this mobile game left the App Store in 2012, and it was iOS-only, so there’s no official way to play it today — which makes Jacob’s vacation possibly the rarest trip in the galaxy.
21 Dragon Age Legends (2011)
Dragon Age 2 came with a social network attached. Legends, a strategy RPG on Facebook and Google+, ran alongside the sequel in the Free Marches. In it, you played as a trusted ally of Ravi, the Viscount of Kaiten, investigating the mystery around his son. You could recruit your friends’ avatars via the linked social platforms. EA ended support for this game in 2012, but an offline single-player version survives in the Internet Archive.
20 Mass Effect Infiltrator (2012)
On the same day Mass Effect 3 launched, a full second war started in an iOS app. Infiltrator put you in the boots of a Cerberus operative who uncovers absolutely horrifying experiments in his employer’s labs and decides to take revenge. IronMonkey Studios built this cover shooter to run parallel to Shepard’s adventures, fully in line with BioWare’s canon. EA pulled it from the App Store in 2015, so it isn’t playable today unless you kept your old copy. You don’t get conversation wheels here, just a chance to practice the cover-and-shoot rhythm the main trilogy’s firefights ran on.
19 Anthem (2019)
Anthem was set on a world the gods left unfinished. There, Freelancers pilot Javelin exosuits to keep a shadowy faction from claiming ancient technology. It was BioWare’s first new IP in about a decade and a co-op game. In it, squads of up to four flew out from Fort Tarsis on missions and strongholds. It launched in rough shape, and EA finally shut servers down in January 2026, but the first time you lifted off in a Javelin truly felt like flying.
18 Shattered Steel (1996)
BioWare’s very first game wasn’t an RPG. Shattered Steel, published by Interplay 30 years ago, dropped you into a future ruined by the Core Wars as a mercenary mech pilot hired to investigate pirate raids on Lanios 3, where the raiders turn out to be a hostile alien race. It sold fairly well for the time — over 170,000 copies. You can still play it on PC through Steam. BioWare was still perfecting its blueprint, but its very first draft featured a giant robot.
17 Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (2008)
So what does happen after Sonic defeats Dr. Eggman? Sonic Chronicles — an actual Sonic turn-based RPG developed by BioWare, yes, you are reading that correctly — featured a mysterious menace kidnapping the last echidna. Throughout this Nintendo DS game, Sonic led a party of ten friends against the Dark Brotherhood. Pick a squad, hear everyone out. Rescue the echidna. With its party-building mechanics and dialogue choices, this game remained surprisingly true to BioWare’s formula. Just with a hedgehog at the front.

16 Mass Effect: Andromeda (2017)
This game left behind the Milky Way entirely. In Andromeda, you play as Scott or Sara Ryder. After you wake up from cryo-sleep as the Andromeda Initiative’s new Pathfinder, you’re tasked with finding humanity a new home in the Heleus Cluster. Not so fast, though: You can’t just move in — the militaristic kett and the embattled angara are fighting over your best habitat contenders. This game stumbled a bit at launch, but its alien vistas were gorgeous enough to take your breath away. It’s playable on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
15 Dragon Age 2 (2011)
Dragon Age 2 narrowed down the expansive world introduced in Dragon Age: Origins to just one troubled city — Kirkwall. Over the course of one decade, you get to see how the city changes, and just how far you can go to amass as much power as possible. You play as Hawke, one of the few who escaped the destruction of home, a refugee who flees the Blight for Kirkwall and rises to become its Champion. This game is narrated (exceedingly unreliably) by the dwarf Varric, who tells your tale to a Seeker in three acts. It’s playable on PC and Xbox consoles (via backward compatibility).
14 MDK2 (2000)
Once upon a time, BioWare let an alien invasion land in its own hometown of Edmonton, Alberta. In MDK2, the 2000 sequel to Shiny’s cult shooter about alien minecrawlers, janitor Kurt Hectic, mad scientist Dr. Fluke Hawkins, and Max, a six-legged dog, discover a minecrawler right there in Edmonton. They then stumble onto a new plot to destroy Earth. While this game initially launched on Dreamcast, you can play it on PC today. It’s delightfully goofy at times, but that’s great. Even a studio known for sweeping epics gets to be silly sometimes.
