Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Episode Count and Streaming Details Teased by New Leaks
The upcoming Dragon Ball Super anime remake could have an episode count and streaming platform
It's a strange time to be a Dragon Ball fan. For the first time in years, the franchise will not be featured at Jump Festa, the yearly showcase held by the manga's publisher, Shueisha. Along with the lack of news regarding a continuation of the Dragon Ball Super manga, this does not bode well for the future of the series. At the same time, however, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, the remake of the Dragon Ball Super anime, is about to start airing this October.
While the anime will barely offer anything new in terms of story, fans are still understandably excited to see Dragon Ball on air again with a new, enhanced visual presentation. Speculation has run rampant about how long this new series will run and which arcs of the original anime it will cover. Moreover, an official streaming platform outside of Japan has not been announced yet, but a new rumor could finally answer all these questions.
Crunchyroll could soon announce Dragon Ball Super: Beerus streaming details
On Sept. 28, the account @SugoiLITE shared in a post on X that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will have a total of 19 episodes, divided into three arcs: God of Destruction Beerus arc, Frieza's Revival arc, and Universe Six arc. This is coherent with previous reports that mentioned a total of about 20 episodes and these three arcs specifically. If confirmed, this means that the anime will be on air until February 2027 with a weekly episode release. The post also adds that Crunchyroll will be streaming the show one hour after it airs in Japan, something that the platform has not yet officially confirmed.
While @SugoiLITE's record with leaks and rumors is far from spotless, this post is noteworthy because it was later shared by @Venixys, a Dragon Ball news account that has proven reliable in the past with information from undisclosed insider contacts. In a post this past August, the person behind the account announced they would stop sharing leaks and rumors due to the negative effect they have on the community and themselves, which adds more credibility to their work and to their recent repost of the information shared by @SugoiLITE.
Putting the rumor mill to one side, the most intriguing piece of the puzzle is the lack of an official announcement by Crunchyroll, which has been the streaming house for Dragon Ball Super until now. With less than two weeks to go before the debut of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus in Japan, it's hard to see how this silence could pay off in terms of marketing. Crunchyroll's fall anime schedule, revealed on Sept. 15, notably lacks any mention of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, too.
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be streaming on Prime Video in Japan
Another piece of news that surfaced in recent days could explain Crunchyroll's silence. In Japan, Prime Video will stream the episodes of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus 30 minutes after their broadcast on Fuji TV. This is a notable development, because the original Dragon Ball Super anime only began streaming on Prime Video in Japan in 2019, one year after the show ended. This marks a massive victory for Amazon's streaming service, and it could also be a sign of a yet-to-be-resolved struggle for the rights to stream the show outside of Japan.
Whether Dragon Ball Super: Beerus lands on Crunchyroll, on Prime Video, or both outside of Japan, what's certain is that interest in the franchise remains high. If the three-arc structure is confirmed as well, that would bring the remake all the way to the Goku Black arc, which could be adapted into a following season, along with the Universe Survival arc. After that, the already-announced Galactic Prisoner arc will finally bring fully-new Dragon Ball content to our screens. Let's hope it won't take too long.
